Ebony Browne
Born to be a rockstar but I was too melancholy, I am Ebony Browne aka Cancer Diva.
Why doesn't myspace have a category for singer-songwriter?
Strange days have come my lovies. I have been writing music and performing for about 15 years now. I used to be viciously protective and in ways I still am.
I really don't want anyone ever to cover one of my songs ever ever. They are MINE MINE MINE my life my stories my thoughts my emotions and not for you to sing.
That said I have a whole new concept about my music. I am now giving my music away as is. That means I no longer sell CDs, I just copy them, write my name on the CD, make a makeshift cover and they are free.
In this spirit I open this myspace thingie so that lovers of my music the world over can have something more than a ten year old cassette, a 5 year old CD or a fading bumpersticker that says "Satan Rides My Bunghole"
I had writer's block from 2001 until just this March. I have a plan now. I am making my own very trashy trashy sounding "CD" This CD is called One Track Wonders and is comprised of my new music as I write it. As songs develop I will change what version of them I have up here. So take what you want of me while it's here.
Things change, I change. Right now it is free, but it's still mine. Yet I give it to you.
Much of it is poorly poorly poorly recorded and not mixed well.
I am a folk singer and I stand by my right to be low-fi. It's my voice and my being that I represent, I never planned or claimed to be a guitar player.
Much more to come.
The best things will not be typed but written into song. Such is life.
And now, as the illustrious australian lady Ms. Kat Frankie says on *her* supiedupie myspace thang, the other baloney of me talking about me in the third person. You dovies are gonna love it.Ebony Browne is a young Sub-Folk singer-songwriter from San Francisco,
California. Currently living in Berlin, Germany she is not a performer to miss.
Her songs range from haunting ballads to taboo-breaking hootenannies.
The singer has a wonderful power to draw the audience into the performance,
making even first-time concert-goers feel like old friends.
Ms. Browne can’t remember a time in her life where she didn’t sing;
“ My imaginary friends and I had a band.†she says.
But her life as a songwriter really began when an acquaintance gave her a guitar in 1993
so that she would “have something to go with that voice.†Within three days she had written her first song
and within three months was playing gigs that packed coffee-houses.
In 1994, within a year from beginning to play and write songs she released
a self-produced album ‘Swollen’, was named the “Official folksinger of the Northern
California Skateboard and Snowboard Scene†and was nominated for, though didn’t receive,
the Butte County California Best Folksinger/ Folkband award.
Since arriving in Germany Ebony Browne has participated in a number of projects in various artistic branches.
In 1997 and 1998 as a member of Mexx Schlüpfer’s R-Volksbuehne she performed,
recorded and toured, and guest-starred with Christoff Schlingensief.
In 1999 she was asked to perform in the film Salamandar ,(D 1999 Gebers)
that not only premiered with good reviews at that year’s Berlinale Film Festival,
but was also aired in Germany’s 2nd television channel ZDF.
In 2003 Ebony Browne accompanied Germany’s best-selling author Jakob Hein throughout
the country on his book-promotion tour for his book about the USA “ Formen des menschlischen Zusammenlebensâ€
released in 2004 features Ebony Browne as herself, and begins and ends with her original music.
Ebony Browne is a one of a kind voice. Her presence is powerful and moving.
The audience is compelled to listen and to journey with her through the valleys and mountains
of emotions that are her songs. But she is more than a voice, she is a poet, one who weaves emotional tapestries
with words She is an artist who understands instinctively how to pack the experiences of life into words and tones
that move the human soul.
schon ihren ersten Soloauftritt.
menschlichen Zusammenlebens.“
Im November 2004 gewann sie den Santa Cruz Singer-Songwriter
Contest in Kalifornien.
