About Me

I have always been obsessed with music. I've tried on a number of occasions to get involved with making music. In my late 20's I was bass player in 2 one-gig bands ("Making Garage Doors Badly" being my favourite). But, coz my sister told me I couldn't sing when I was 12, I never took it very far. Not long after my 40th birthday I met this musician who I started to hang around with, after about a year I asked for a singing lesson. Who knows, my sister may have been wrong...
Well, I'm still not sure, but I do it anyway! I even write my own stuff. I'm struggling with the guitar, but I sometimes manage to make my songs sound vaguely like I hear them in my head.
I can be heard playing at open mic nights & folk clubs in & around Bristol (UK) most nights of the week. I gig occasionally. I'd like to do more but I can't be bothered with all the hassle of chasing promoters. I'm sometimes accompanied by my good friend Richard Burley (www.myspace.com/richardgburley) who is a great songwriter, fabulous guitarist & super singer as well as being good people.
Find out more about some of the things I used to be involved in by going to Bristol Acoustic Roots Singer Songwriter Festival & www.myspace.com/barssfest , SongSmith Bristol as well as the all new SongSmith Club .
I've handed over the running of the somerville club open mic night every thursday to Mireille Mathlener & Richard Craine ( www.myspace.com/somervilleclub ). I still support it most weeks, it's good to see all my old friends!

She Knows

Just to reassure you that the new song (She Knows) will not see a departure from my usual performing style. I love the mix, but it'll still mostly be me & my guitar (though whenever I can I will conti...

New recordings

Just wanted to say what a great job Mike (at Haverstock Road Studios) has done with the recordings of my songs. I'm really pleased. I hope you like them as much as I do!

Taking a break from promoting

Hi everyone, I'm withdrawing from promoting (at least for a while, maybe permanently). Q will be running SongSmith single handedly. We haven't fallen out. He's a lovely guy who works really hard & ach...

Looking for a guitarist...

I'm not a great guitarist & to be perfectly honest I don't want to be. I can strum a bit & when I feel brave I do some simple fingerpicking. Whilst Martin John helps out sometimes, he's too busy with ...

Another New Recording!

I've just recorded this at home. I played the guitar & did the vocals all in one take. It doesn't sound too bad to my ear...Hope it sounds ok to other people as well.

New Song

Wrote "New Orleans" about 6 months after the disaster. Needed that time to get over the emotion of the event. I've finally got it recorded. Hope other people get something out of listening to it.
