The San Diego Independent Media Center (SDIMC) is a grassroots organization committed to using media production and distribution as a tool for promoting social and economic justice in the San Diego/Tijuana border region. It is our goal to give voice to those people under-represented in the mainstream media. We intend to illuminate and analyze local and global issues that are affected by the increasing corporate domination of our society and the subsequent erosion of democracy. We seek to generate alternatives to the current biases in the corporate media and to contribute to the development of an equitable and sustainable society.

Wednesday, October 11, 7-9pm - SDIMC 101. An introduction to the San Diego Independent Media Center, with information on how to become a community media maker and participate in SDIMC. We will jointly write a story about a recent event, post it to the website, make it a feature, and practice stuff. Voz Alta, 1544 Broadway, one block from City College, downtown San Diego. FREE

Wednesday, October 18 CANCELLED - The Borderlands hackLab and San Diego Indymedia present OPEN HACK NITE, a DIY space for hackers, artists, activists and media makers to share, teach and learn, with a focus on making technology accessible to those traditionally excluded from techno culture, like women and people of color. Voz Alta, 1544 Broadway, one block from City College, downtown San Diego. FREE Open Hack Nite was cancelled to prepare for the Tijuana meeting of the EZLN Sixth Commission on Oct 19.

Thursday, October 19 - In collaboration with Collectivo Zapatista, borderlands hackLab and Voz Alta. Tentative: Cross-Border Audio or Video Streaming of the EZLN Sixth Commission/La Otra CampaÃ±a meeting in Tijuana. More details as they become available...

Wednesday, October 25, 7pm - FILM SCREENING by Robert Greenwald, "Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers." The story of what happens to everyday Americans when corporations go to war. What if Halliburton's CEO came clean? Voz Alta, 1544 Broadway, one block from City College, downtown San Diego. $3-5 donation requested.

RadioActive SanDiego invites you to an evening of conscious Hip Hop, featuring Emcee Lynx, and local artists, Id, and Vision, the Female MC. Proceeds go to benefit RadioActive sanDiego and Voz Alta. 8pm. This is going to be an awesome evening of positive, powerful music. This is an All Ages show.
