Singer-songwriter. Originally from the Louisiana swamps and influenced by their folk-country-blues traditions, Debbie's songs marry tradition with modern day personal and political life. She sounds a little like if a young Joan Baez drank a little bourbon, got a Southern accent, and sang Lucinda Williams' songs. In other words, she sounds like herself. She is fairly recent to the music scene, having spent her twenties running an organic cattle ranch in Arizona. The music found her in the long nights waiting for heifers to give birth and the equally long days riding the range to check cattle. Her tunes range thematically from dark, lonely landscapes reminiscent of a Cormac McCarthy novel to funnier, or at least sarcastic takes on this crazy experiment we call modern day life. She pretty much digs those slow dirge-like blues songs, but every once and awhile she picks up the pace for a good old drinkin' and dancin' tune. She has entertained audiences at house concerts, the Tucson Folk Fest, and of course, regional bars and coffee houses. Catch her and expect an upbeat litany of songs about barren women, love gone bad, drunks, and poisoned waters. Don't worry, she'll throw in a couple of juvenile delinquent songs to keep it happy.
