Blood of Kingu began as founder Azazael's solo project in late 1997. Azazael's dissatisfying experience in death, black, grind, and doom metal led him to writing his own material during this time. Azazael always felt that metal's strength as a genre lied in its ability to cross boundaries, so his songwritiing mirrored this philosophy.
Lethal Prayer's Belial Kobilak was the first to become involoved with the project. Belial showed Azazael that his compositions had merit and held their own in an already oversaturated black/death metal scene. Recording some rehearsal demos in early 1998, Belial and Azazael began molding the Blood of Kingu sound that exists today. Belial and Azazael performed the first Blood of Kingu song written (then called "Devoured by Evil", now known as "The Fall of Christ") live, following a Funerus set that they both participated in (Belial on guitar, Azazael on vocals).
Later, in 1999, Azazael became involved with the short-lived band, Eternal Winter. The band revamped "The Fall of Christ", and began working on the ninety minute catalog of Blood of Kingu for an upcoming album. Shortly after a failed attempt at recording, Azazael dropped off the face of the earth for an untold four years.
Blood of Kingu reemerged in June of 2003 with the demo recording of "...Again". Azazael handled co-production, as well as all drums and vocals. Fred Smith, of Mi'Gauss, attended to bass and guitar duties. Involvment in various projects over the following year saw Blood of Kingu in the background. Now, in 2006, Azazael has taken on new members in Agamemnon (guitar), and Demetrius (bass); "Crepulsculum" will soon be a reality.
