I'm Shawn, a 32-year-old journalist, proud liberal and wannabe interior designer who lives and works in the metro Washington, D.C., area.
I have edited, written and designed for various newspapers, magazines, newsletters, online publications, e-mail magazines and broadcast media since 1996.
I have reported from the White House Rose Garden for Counseling Today during President Clinton's tenure, edited and designed pages for The New Republic and written about the proliferation of nuclear weapons for National Journal , among many other assignments.
I hold a Master of Arts in Public Affairs and News Media Studies from American University in Washington, D.C. (graduated 2004), and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications from Point Park University in Pittsburgh (graduated 1997).
I decided recently to add yet another degree to my collection by 2014 -- this one for interior design in anticipation of a mid-life career change.
Currently I am a Managing Editor for an Elsevier publication. I also run my own freelance journalism Web site, Golden Pen Ink .
I also have a son -- a Yorkie named Jynx -- who sucks every moment of my attention that he can get.
My hometown is Pittsburgh, Pa. I moved to D.C. in 1999, but my family still resides in the Steel City. I'd never live there again, but it's nice to visit once or twice a year.
