About Me

A musician between two worlds, Diana Baroni is a flutist and singer currently appearing in the most prestigious festivals of the Baroque and World Music scenes. Originally from Argentina, she studied music and diverse instruments: flutes, guitar and singing. In 1985 she came for the first time to Europe, obtaining an invitation to participate on the summer workshops from the International Menuhin Music Academy, Gstaad - Switzerland. When she returned to Buenos Aires, she began her professional music career (1987-1994) specializing in the contemporary repertory, notably in the productions of the Colon Theatre Experimental Centre / CEOB, Buenos Aires - Argentina, under the direction of composer Gerardo Gandini. She was a founding member of the ensemble Halloween, where she played and sang the creations of American avant-garde composers such as John Cage, Charles Ives, Morton Feldmann.Living in Europe since1995, she studied baroque transverse flute with Wilbert Hazelzet and early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis - Switzerland, following the class of Jesper Christensen (Abschlusskonzert 1998). At the Sweelink Conservatorium of Amsterdam -The Netherlands, she received the Soloist Diploma in 1999 as a student of Jed Wentz. With Pablo Valetti and Céline Frisch, she created the baroque ensemble Café Zimmermann (www.cafe-zimmermann.com) with whom, since 2000, they record for the label Alpha Productions, Paris. In her Amsterdam period (1998-2002), she met the Paraguayan harpist Lincoln Almada who put her back on the singing track. This meeting led to the discovery of the traditional music repertory as a performer. They had concerts in Belgium and The Netherlands and during this experience, her interest and curiosity towards the Afro-Peruvian music of the Pacific Coast was born. With the band Sapukai she recorded the album « Son de los Diablos », for the collection Les Chants de la terre, Alpha Productions, Paris (September 2003).Awarded to be "Artist in Residence" , a programm promoted by Espacio Infoculture in Huesca -Spain, during january 2005 she explore further into Peruvian traditionals and hispanic roots, preparing a new repertoire and creating Diana Baroni Trio.- More info about Diana Baroni TRIO and Brodsky QUARTET Project at : www.dianabaroni.blogspot.com / www.lufthansafestival.org.uk -
