ARTIST BIO:
Like many of his peers growing up in Hunter’s Point, an area in San Francisco, California often linked to violence and gang activity, INSANE 1 soaked up the streets; making it part of his consciousness and his being. By age 13, INSANE 1 decided to pursue rap; but his dreams crumbled as he fell into the street life. “My life was cool, up until ’93 - ’94,†he remembers. “In ’96, that’s when my father passed away. After that, things were rough. That’s when I started hustling for money; for other ways to survive.†INSANE 1 says his interest in school was overshadowed by the constant lure of money.
His music is marked by honesty and a realness that could only be inspired by living on the edge. “What I did in the past, good or bad, is what makes the man I am today. The same experience helped set the foundation for the songs on the “The Hustler’s Handbook†album,†says INSANE 1. “It’s inspired from real life events. Listening to my music is like having a deep conversation with me,†he offers. “I only rap about the things I’ve lived, things that I’ve seen and the reality of the streets.â€
Most notable is the introspective “Real Pain.†“The song “Real Pain†is reality,†INSANE 1 explains. “It talks about surviving the streets and how living day-to-day is a struggle in itself. It explains why I started hustling and the reasons behind the pain.†Highlighted by its diversity, the album takes listeners on a journey through his mind, his life and his streets. It tells stories that most people can relate to on some level.
The album features production by Mr. Laid, Mr. Tayla and Armeezy and includes the radio single “Big Time Ballinâ€, the title track “Hustle Hater (The Hustler’s Handbook)â€, the low-rider anthem “Make It Hop†and the high-powered “Ready for War.†In addition to these smash hits, “It’s All Good†and “Playaz Roll†are both destined to hit the radio airwaves with national appeal.
All though he has high hopes for the album, INSANE 1 says he’s less concerned with how many records he sells, than with how his music is received. “All I want is a classic album. My goal is to touch as many people as possible and produce great music. It’s important to me that everyone that listens to my album can relate and can feel what I’m trying to say.â€
“The Hustler’s Handbook†is the debut album from INSANE 1. In stores early 200x
