Wendy... named by her sister from "Peter Pan"...( so I guess that makes her "Miss Darling"...if you’re nasty)...first generation U.S.A....not that having British parents could be considered too worldly, different or even that exciting...but MY, OH MY...does it make you a different breed...a definite half breed in her own mind....mostly in regards to her "off" (yet she’ll say "charming"...however others will say, "straight up sailor") sense of humor.
Music was a huge influence in her upbringing - her father, Basil, was a big band enthusiast and, being a boy who lived through WWII, he raised Wendy under a roof that bellowed songs of that era. Her mother tells stories of tucking her into bed at night with a kiss and a gentle warning of .."go to straight to sleep, no singing tonight."...but would then silently hide out by the doorway to listen to her little four year old sing herself to sleep to a Jo Stafford tune. Wendy sang to audiences at a very young age, crippled at that time with stage fright, so much so that she shied away from singing publicly for a number of years. As she grew older, Wendy enjoyed a theatrical career involving dancing, acting and still singing.. although still somewhat quiet about the singing...she studied voice and enjoyed musical theatre, but found it difficult expressing her own voice. Having graduated college with a degree in the Arts she headed to Los Angeles to pursue acting...that proved its challenges, however, and as much as the acting career was not happening, she kept landing singing gigs along the way...a session here...a session there.... She found herself doing commercial spots before long, and figured that the universe might be gently guiding her down the path of least resistance. Giving up acting and dancing she decided to focus on her singing, and had some great fun singing with a few different bands in Los Angeles. She has enjoyed such venues as the The Viper Room, The Roxy, The Garage, The Gardenia, Masquers and the celebrated Cinegrill....having met and sung with amazing talents along the way, she was persuaded by an admired musician friend to start writing. He believed in her, and felt that she would probably be most happy writing her own material. The inspiring and life altering friend that took Wendy under his most talented wing was Kevin Fisher. Kevin is fearless and patient, to say the least, and took the time to groom a vulnerable artist into a voice confident of her message.
