About Me

MyGen Profile GeneratorI'm a newspaperman. We're a dying breed. Pretty soon we'll be gone, but until that day I intend to afflict the powerful and give power to the afflicted to the best of my ability. I also just want to tell a good story. Please don't lump me in with "The Media." I'm not some cable television windbag. I'm a simple reporter and writer trying to chronicle what it was like to be alive in Worcester at this time. Yes, I'm liberal in my personal views, but I keep that out of my work, and it's not like I write about national politics. I'm a veteran of the U.S. Army. I get uncomfortable when people try to thank me for that. Nice of them to say, but you paid my salary, American taxpayers, and now we're all square. You don't owe me a thing. Thanks. Anyway, I served in Iraq during the 1991 Gulf War and then went back during the current war as an embedded reporter for the Boston Herald.
I try to have a good sense of humor about life, and I love to laugh and make sarcastic cracks. I consider sarcasm an art form. I have an active imagination that sometimes can isolate me from people. I have a tendency to live in my head not in the world around me, but lately I've made some great friends who make me want to resist my tendency toward introversion. Thanks to you. Sometimes I wish I could stop time for a couple of days or weeks. Wouldn't that be cool?
Music is my passion. I listen to a lot of music and go to many shows, and I've been learning how to play the guitar for several years now. I will be keeping my day job, trust me, but I have a lot of fun with it. Support local live music. Go to a show. I might buy you a beer.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Cool, smart, funny, unusual people who have something interesting to say or who share some of my passions. Also Joe Strummer. Probably not going to happen, though, seeing as how he's dead and all. We miss you Joe! Hell, while I'm going back in time to meet dead people, put Hound Dog Taylor, R.L. Burnside, Muddy Waters and all the late blues greats on that list too.

I can't wait. The best weekend of the year:

While you're at HRW, don't miss The Goddamn Gallows! Here they are at Ralph's Diner in Worcester recently:

Then, a week after road tripping into the Deep South for Heavy Rebel, it's time to jet out west to the Twin Cities for some gritty punk-blues. Again, I can't wait.

Why wouldn't you want to go to Deep Blues and hear this!
Left Lane Cruiser

After all that traveling, there's this in August right here in Massachusetts. The music line-up is SICK this year: Sasquatch, Memphis Morticians, Soul Reapin' III and a bunch more.

Don't be a wuss. Listen to the Sasquatch.

Check 'em out at one of these shows:

Another public service for fellow live music fans of New England: Check out the show schedule below and treat yourself to some kick-ass Mississippi hill country eletric gut-bucket blues as played by the Ten Foot Polecats. Loud, raw and gritty just the way I like it. Goes well with warm beer, cheap whiskey and bad women.
