Jeff Ostroski is a trumpet player, composer and educator currently residing in Rochester, NY. Jeff holds degrees from Lawrence University (BM, 2006) where he studied with John Daniel and Fred Sturm, and The Eastman School of Music (MM, 2008) where he studied with Clay Jenkins and Bill Dobbins. Jeff played lead trumpet in the Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Fred Sturm from 2002-2006, which won a Downbeat Award during his final year. He went on to play lead trumpet in the Eastman Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Bill Dobbins from 2006-2008.
In 2005, Jeff had the honor of playing lead trumpet in the IAJE All-Star Jazz Ensemble in Chicago, IL. Equally proficient as a jazz player, Jeff has performed at the JVC Jazz Festival in New York City, The Rochester International Jazz Festival, and as a part of the Jazz Round Town Series (affiliated with the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam)
While at Eastman, Jeff directed the Eastman Jazz Lab Band from 2006-2008, giving concerts featuring guest artists such as John Nugent and Glenn Cashman. He also served as a TA in Jazz Pedagogy. Jeff now teaches trumpet at the Eastman Community Music School and at Holland Music Studios.
As a writer, Jeff has arranged a big band work for legendary saxophonist, Benny Golson, as part of a feature in a Jazz Artist Series Concert at Lawrence University in 2006, as well as other compositions for big band and small ensembles.
As a player, Jeff has performed with Harold Danko, Bill Dobbins, Rich Thompson, Jose Encarnacion, Paul Gaspar, Rick Holland, Fred Stone, Dennis Tribuzzi, Gap Mangione, Tito Allen, Lalo Rodriguez, Kevin Ceballo, Cano Estremera, Frankie Vasquez, Michael Stewart, Frankie Negron, Lou Christie, Bobby Rydell and more. He is an active performer in the Rochester area and is a regular member of the Dave Rivello Ensemble (lead trumpet), Orquesta Antonetti, The Rick Holland/Evan Dobbins Little Big Band, The Jazz Mad Lab, and principle trumpet in the Geva Theatre Pit Orchestra (off Broadway productions of Caberet and Sweeney Todd).
