x.lover saw light of day in the spring of 2001. Elen and Jin -- building on the common ground of their no-wave centered record collections, extorting cindering blasts of noise and nonsensical screams from their firetrap-rehearsal space -- were suddenly abandoned of guitarist and drummer. Convinced it was meant to be, both saw the surreal string of events leading to the completion of the band's lineup as perfectly natural. Therese brought to the band a diamond pop-sensibility, and a determination to explore the kling-klang of early electro. Thea brought the beats.
Moving within a space containing harsh stabs of sound, cold electronic rythms, and, ever-increasingly, the clandestine pleasures of pure dance-floor pop, the x.lover sound slowly crystallized into their now trademark electro-junk-death-disco. Bending the steeled gender patterns of rock music -- or just plain gender-bending -- x.lover continually twist their supervisual universe with a simultaneous love, and disregard, for rockn rolls history and aesthetics.
Unapologetically demanding to be, at the same time, challenging and fun, x.lover may not be the last punk-band, but seem to break every mould pop music has conspired, ever!
