DTOX was a Goulburn based metal act that was active from 1997 to 2000 when the band broke up. The band broke up due to constant in-fighting (punching each other not just bitching), stealing each others stuff and the consequent hocking of said items. The band briefly united for a one off benifit show in 2003 which also ended in a fight. This is the story of a band with huge potential and no work ethic or respect for anything. Least of all themselves. It is also a story that should be told. After forming, as a joke really, in 1997 the band quickly built a huge following and began selling out local venues and pulling big crowds in Canberra and Sydney. After the release of the lo-fi demo 'NOT Of Man' (only available on cassette!) they moved into clubs the chaos started. The shows were extremely successful due to the quality of the performances and the effot put in and also the lack of any security or rules of any kind. The fans could drink, get high and fight to their hearts content. DTOX fans were insane. The problem was we couldn't get venues after the fans destroyed them. There were police outside every show and fights and blood at every gig. At one gig all the toilets in the mens were smashed and the cubicles were filled with empty aerosol cans. Another time an air-conditioning system was destroyed and all the windows shattered. Another time a particularly violent punter was ejected by our drummer. He returned with four mates bearing hammers except for one guy who had a stick (guess he couldn't find a hammer). They couldn't get back in to attack us as the fans protected us, so they began hitting cars randomly hoping that one of them would be ours. They must have hit the wrong car cause after the show we found hammers with blood on them backstage. This behaviour continued until the release of our debut CD in 1999. The only place that would have us for a CD launch was a local nightclub with a shady reputation and psychotic security. Release show went well but the fans hated being told what to do. A short tour supporting the Screaming Jets followed which we were promptly kicked off for refusing to work after the shows, telling their road manager to get fucked, stealing some of the other support bands gear, not catering to their crowd by playing all of our heaviest shit and being difficult to deal with in general. We were very, very stupid but very, very METAL. Nevertheless the record was well recieved and sold well and if the band hadn't broke up shortly after it's release I'm sure it would have gone platinum! Haha. Anyways there's part of the story. Enjoy the tunes. Love, Luke.
