Sounds Like: Ben Zeen has been founded in 2004 by Maciej Ozog and Pawel Cieslak. “Siersc†is the first CD/DVD by Ben Zeen (released on polish label for experimental electronic and electroacoustic music Monotype Records in February’2007). Ben Zeen music, presented on CD and DVD, conjuncts analog electronic sounds of Doepfer synthesizer controlled by Theremin and ribbon, which gives it a feature of physically or even bodily controlled instrument, laptops used mainly as a source of deconstructed and manipulated loops and effects for external sources, prepared acoustic and electroacoustic instruments and concrete sound of various origins. Ben Zeen focuses on creating sound collages of extremely open ended structure (based on improvisation) which uses, transgresses and clashes methods, forms, conventions and cliches of various currents of contemporary music. Influences of minimal electronics, music concrete, noise, cut up are mixed up into highly eclectic, indeterminate and surprising forms. Ben Zeen looks for physical / material aspect of sound trying to bring into electronic and digital music an attitude which is based on physical/bodily control of instruments. That is why the performative aspect of sound creation is crucial for Ben Zeen activity. Ben Zeen is not a laboratory or studio project, its goal is not a creation of well structured, highly elaborated forms. Instead, Ben Zeen attitude could be described in terms of improvisation, intuition and indeterminism.
