Outsiders

About Me

Outsiders was a 5 - 8 piece instrumental rock/jazz fusion band from Minneapolis with two albums. The band formed out of the Twin Cities "best musician" competitions in the 90's. Founders Brian Bart and John Purtle met while recording "Duet for Bass and Drums" for the very 1st competition featuring John on bass and Stokely Williams on drums. They won that year and the Song started the 1st album, "Groovism". Soon after, as other competitions continued, other winners and musicians were brought in for multiple line ups. Main Members were; John Purtle BASS, Brian Bart, Greg Herzenach, Matt Prudoehl, Carl Westin and Dan Thayer- GUITARS, Stokely Williams, Jess Wheeler, and Dave Doll - DRUMS, Don LaMarca and Peter Schimke - KEYBOARDS, Dave Mardin and Mark Henderson - SAX, Kevin Nord and Mike Nelson - HORNS. The album was recorded at Brian Bart's Logic Studio, and done one year later. The band got moderate regional airplay and performed several concerts for almost 3 years. Several personnel changes were used for different "Groovism"recordings and concerts, as well as the follow up album "What Planet". Outsiders had started to gain a large underground following, but eventually broke up because the nature of the project was primarily a recording project while members were in other bands. All members are still very active in the music business, and have accomplished various success story's too numerous to mention in this bio.
