VALERIO ROCCO ORLANDO is a filmmaker and visual artist.
“My inspiration comes from Phisyognomy, Ancient Tragedy and Postmodern Cinema.
It’s a quest for New Romanticism, Beauty and Truth.â€
Valerio Rocco Orlando focuses his research on the tension between childhood and adulthood, androgyny and femininity, solitude and relationships, with a poetic, soft and introspective style.
Balanced between realism and mise-en-scène, his film and video works represent and communicate distinguishing personalities, facing such themes as melancholy, maternity, transvestitism, infancy, passion and loneliness.
Influenced by varied sources as the Nouvelle Vague and Caravaggio's painting, Orlando's language traces an emotional liaison between the artist and his subject: an emphatic relationship that is so authentic it involves the viewer too.
After the articulated video installation "The Sentimental Glance" (2007), curated by Caroline Corbetta at Galleria Maze, Turin, which showed the portraits of six young women realised between 2002 and 2006, Orlando is now working on a new ambitious project about Love.
