Don't really think I'm the "blurbing" kind, but... I have a solid background in non-profit Campus/Community Radio (cfru 93.3fm, ciut 89.5fm & ckln 88.1fm), programming/hosting music shows, producing and teching whatever needed to be produced and teched. In addition, I've worked in this field as a Funding Drive Co-ordinator and a Volunteer Co-ordinator; organizing funding drives, writing manuals and training people to host their own programs. I've also spent a fair amount of time in Toronto in the Theatre world, doing lights and sound for many companies, respect to Tony & Louise from The New School of Drama, and sometimes set design/dressing, and costumes, and... And may I add... I'm Irish on my Mother's side, and German/British on my Father's side (yes, he is the "conflicted" one). The cultural choices allowed here are somewhat restrictive and don't really allow for more than a generalized "white/caucasian" designation (in my case). I'm not ashamed of my cultural background - I come from a long line of rebels, and as I recently told a friend, "I learned insurgence at my Momma's knee, and am damned proud of it.". This is not being said to deny nor diminish the horrific damage done by white European cultures anywhere they traveled to, or just amongst themselves. But I don't think there is any Culture that does not have blood and dirt on some part of their hands or in their history. And, since there were a number of my ancestors who were in positions of power, some of them most likely committed abuses of power also - but those are their sins, not mine. I'm only really responsible for my own. Though I do follow the adage that if you're not part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem! And this is most definitely NOT an invite nor approval of White Supremacy anywhere. Those people need to learn to accept their history and what part they might have had in it, and stop using their fear, resentment and shame to justify dumping their shit on others. Shame and shaming has been too mis-used and abused by these societies "we've" created and are responsible for. Ooohhh... is this why people do blogs... I could start getting into that...
