Don’t Use Burt’s Bees Lifeguard’s Choice

About Me

Sometimes our dreams seem to get further away until it’s easier to give them up rather than pick up the pieces and start over. However, sometimes life will take us on a new un-expectant path and create a second chance to chase that faint star in the distance. Even though it’s a long shot, something inside says to keep going, don’t give up and every heartache, every night spent alone, and every wall to be broken down will be worth it in the end.
This is the current path that Josh has found himself on…
Raised in the small but prosperous town of Sparks, Nevada, Josh Bonano always had a passion for music. He started at a very young age and found himself creating melodies over the drone of the vacuum cleaner and later went on to pick up the clarinet that instilled his life for 7 years. “It wasn’t until the breakup of my first love that I decided to pick up the guitar,” he said. “It actually happened because I believed that if I could win the high-school talent show she would see just what she was missin’ and would beg to get back with me; yeah, it didn’t happen but I did fall in love with the guitar!”
With the guitar in hand he went on to play in many successful local bands and even, later, had the opportunity to have Yellowcard play at their CD release party in the year 2002. “This is still probably one of my most memorable nights; at the time they weren’t big yet so I was like, ‘who are these guys?’ but when they got on stage it changed my life forever. I felt a sudden passion to push the limits of my songwriting and playing and try to encapsulate people like they did to me. At that moment I knew there is something magical about music when it touches the heart.”
However, after graduating high-school, and never getting back together with his first love, life hit in a big way and he found himself thrown into physical labor with no plans to attend college and no direction to where life should take him. The days kept him busy at work as the nights had him trying to catch up on much needed rest, and all the while, his guitar sat patiently in the closet collecting dust.
After two-and-a-half years and finding himself working at an assembly warehouse pressing thousands of metal plates a day for industrial coffee makers, something finally clicked and he began questioning the purpose of his life and every memory up to that point.
Soon after he enrolled at Truckee Meadows Community College and later transferred to the University of Southern California to study film. “I was in the film program for two weeks and kept thinking to myself, ‘when am I going to have time to write songs and play music?’ At that moment I knew that wasn’t a good sign and that my passion has, and always will be, to play and write music.”
Currently Josh is in the Los Angeles area attending USC and both writing and playing as much as he can. While he doesn’t have any great equipment he does the best with what he has, and nothing can be more important then his greatest assets: his passion, his drive, and his heart. He does all the recordings and mixing in his dorm room with the mics he has available and one day hopes to have a professional recording. He is also the lead singer and songwriter of the local Reno sensation Alone in the Cockpit
“Every day is an adventure and it gets tough to always find creative ways to eat throughout the week, but I am on the pathway to my dreams and I wouldn’t exchange this time for the world. I am also excited to be able to share this time with all my friends and fans as it’s almost like they are on this journey with me.”
These are only the first few steps onto a twisted road and there will be many adventures to come. Feel free to send him any questions, comments, stories of your own adventures, or invite anyone else to join on this exciting voyage.
