-// ABOUT THE LABEL //-
Central Park is dedicated to providing excellent music. The label presents soulful house and jazz-fusions through a global perspective, featuring producers from New York, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, Holland, and England. Musicality in the traditional sense is the focus of Central Park Records' new aesthetic. The label succeeds at bridging the gap between prime time club cuts and deeper, jazzier grooves by uniting live instrumentation and sequenced beats. By combining these elements, the label constantly redefines and reinvents the standard dance tracks, making music that can be played at an intimate lounge or on a club's main dance floor.
The label was launched in early 2000 by Scott Richmond and Sean Holland as an offshoot of Satellite Records. The first year of Central Park featured the diverse production and re-mix talents of Derrick Carter, Soul Vision, Boyd Jarvis, Pal Joey, Nkemdi, Daddy J & Face, Mateo & Matos, Mutiny, and Jon Cutler. CPR's release of the signature classic 'I Might Do Something Wrong' marked a significant change in direction for the label. Written, sung, and produced by Christian Urich (Cooly's Hot Box) and re-mixed by Osunlade, 'I Might Do Something Wrong' moonlights as part soul session, while driving dancefloors as a provocative deep house number. It became a vocal house classic, being played week in and week out at Body and Soul. Since then, CPR redirected their focus to releasing deep and soulful sounds, developing and fostering the talents of Tortured Soul, The Moves, Camiel, Osunlade, Alix Alvarez, and Alistair Colling to name a few. Tortured Soul's famed release, 'Fall In Love' broke boundaries once again with its combination of live soul and house. With an Eric Kupper mix as well, this song had an impact on dancefloors the world over. 'The Moves' features chunky beats, groovy keys, and smooth vocals - music with storming personality. 'Camiel' Sintra is a beautiful production featuring romantic, engaging female vocals. This song strikes a chord with its deep, wispy and heartfelt melodies.
Central Park has ventured beyond the vinyl 12-inch market into the CD market, beginning with their first label showcase / compilation released March 2003. Enlisting the exquisite mixing abilities of Osunlade, CPR had a mix CD by an artist who can clearly and accurately represent the label's style. On the artist production front, CPR will also be releasing Tortured Soul's new full-length album. This album will feature their critically acclaimed past releases as well as all new original excursions.
2007 will see the launch of two sub-labels: Central Park Tracks (trackier, more instrumental deep house) and Parque Central (Brazilian inflected house interpretations).
Today, Central Park Recordings is owned and operated independently in New York City by Scott Richmond and DJ EBAR .
