I am here for Dating, Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm stuck in the 70's, including my attitude, ponytail, taste in music, cars, and women. In my mid 50's, I've done most everything once, maybe a dozen times if I REALLY liked it. Music is my life. I grew up on it, and it put food on the table until I was an adult, and then continued to. I was playing guitar and drums in a band at 13, and at 17 had my own guitar studio where I gave lessons.
I've played in various bands since, as well as managing Bangarang who sometimes was the backup band for Pat Travers. Rex Rodgers was my best bud for years, and I miss him. Wish he was still in Florida. I try and keep in touch with guys from the old "Thoroughbred days," Todd Rockfield, Jon Puhl, etc. I still collect guitars and drums, though I trimmed my collection down from 21 to a handful.
Let's just say I hung around with touring groups for years backstage, on stage, etc. (Mostly Southern Rock) I was behind the scenes, but it was a blast. I made a LOT of friends.
I had an idea for a Country Music "monthly tabloid" when I was 20, so I started it with my Dad in 1970. It was called the "Country and Gospel Showman." We had over 20,000 subscribers within 2 years and that's where I got my advertising background. I was also the editor of the newspaper and that's where I fell in love with photography and writing. When my Dad passed away, I sold the paper to the former owner of the "Music City News," but I guess it took on a less personal feel and within a couple of years it folded.
My daughter Adrienne (24) is the love of my life, and my very best friend! (Boy can she harmonize with me! Must be something in the genes) *Update: she got married 2/7/09 to a great guy, "Adam!"*
*** I'm working on my guitar "chops," knocking the rust off and would love to meet up with someone to be half of a "Duo," locally ***
Oh, btw.. The last time I visited Nashville, I played at world famous "Tootsies Orchid Lounge" during the day, and they were gracious enough to invite me back that night when there would be a big crowd. It was an awesome experience that I wouldn't take anything for. I got an ovation and felt very humble to be on the same stage where most every famous Country artist has played at one time or another.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I've met hundreds of famous people, so I'll have to think about this one. My Father ( Slim Lay ) was on the Grand Ole Opry, so I've met a lot of people. He was on the road with Curly Fox and Texas Ruby (for you old timers), along with George Morgan, & Patsy Cline. There are others too numerous to mention. He was scheduled to go on the road with Hank Williams Sr, but Hank died the week before.

Curly Putman was in my Dad's band in Alabama before moving to Nashville. (He penned "Green Green Grass of Home, "My Elusive Dreams," "He stopped loving her today", and 100's of others). My Dad was the MC for the "Old time Fiddler's Contest" at Renfro Valley Kentucky for 3 years, as well as various fiddlers contests around the country each year. It was not unusual as a kid to come home and find Johnny Cash, or Loretta Lynn, or someone of that caliber sitting in the living room. Of course it didn't mean anything to me as a kid, but it does now!!

He came off the road to start a family, and became a very well known DJ both in Nashville and Huntsville, Alabama. (WBHP) My Dad was a heck of a fiddle player, and guitarist, not to mention an awesome DJ and personality. He was called home way too soon at the age of 49, and I miss him everyday.
