In Loving Memory Shahnaz LaCaze 9/27/71-11/29/06 In case there is any confusion, let’s get one thing out of the way: LaCaze sounds like “La Cause†… not LakayZEE or LaKAYz or any other variation. Shahnaz Lacaze, for those of you who haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting her, is a young vivacious woman who enjoys art, cheesy television, foreign films, 80’s clubs, fashion magazines, tinkering around with do-it-yourself projects, traveling, making out with people, and laughing like crazy. Your average teenager… except she’s a little older. On September 20th, it will have been one month since she got a phone call informing her that she had cancer. In that one month, she was hospitalized for two weeks. She was given chemo. She was given radiation. She was given tests and shots and pills and at times, she wasn’t given a lot of hope. But no matter what she got, she was given love. More love than she ever knew could be given to her. This space was started by the dedicated friends and family of one Miss Shahnaz LaCaze. Shahnaz has been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer called angiosarcoma. Just to give you an idea of how rare it is, sarcomas account for only 1% of all cancers. ANGIOsarcomas account for 1% of sarcomas. That’s 1% of 1%!!! To make matters more difficult, she was diagnosed in a very late stage which means that the cancer had spread to numerous areas therefore making it an extremely tough battle. She is in the fight of her life. Doctors gave her 3-6 months to live. UNACCEPTABLE!!! Shahnaz would not hear of it. With youth, strength, and an immeasurable will to survive, Shahnaz has put on her boxing gloves and is ready for the fight.
