Never Break Records (NBR) is an independent record label* based in Southern California. NBR was officially established in 2002 by Jon Dunkle with money he made from a settlement case that involved 12 chickens and a small bicycle with training wheels.
Having been a door to door candy salesman before the settlement money came in, Jon began burning CDs of local artists without their permission and selling them door to door. However, John found he could sell more candy bars than CDs and so he came up with an idea.
The idea was to create and manufacture CDs that were both playable and edible. Music and food---the perfect combination. Jon had little trouble creating edible CDs, but the playable requirements caused setbacks.
In order to raise capital for research of his revolutionary idea, Jon decided to sign his first artist. While eating at his favorite restaurant, a young man with a guitar walked in and ordered the same menu item Jon was then eating. Intrigued by this musician's good taste in food, Jon knew this young man had to have good taste in music.
Later that day Jon drafted up a contract with that young man---Chusten King. This contract not only signed Chusten as the first official artist on never break records, but also gave him full partnership in the label. Chusten would go on to form Alsoran, NBR's most unsuccessful act.
Later that year to raise further capital, Jon sold the rights to his CD shaped chocolates---an item that can now be found in candy stores around the world (see photo in profile).
Today, Jon continues his quest to create playable and edible CDs while funding and managing Never break Records.
