I'm Debussy Xanthankis, my friends call me Debut X. I'm the main character of Timothy Harada's novel "Myth Shattering."
I was raised in the 1990s on punk rock, marijuana, and a whole hell of a lot of societal discontent in downtown Wutherington Beach, Southern California (In what that stupid teen drama calls "The O.C.").
This discontent was only aggravated on one summer afternoon, when I was trying to hide some bud I confiscated from the backyard of a neighbor's house. I went to store it in the garage of our fucked up apartments. I hadn't been in this garage for many years, as my mother only used it to store junk. What I discovered in the horde of junk were boxes of my dead father's revolutionary book collection.
This book collection wiped out all the myths of my childhood conditioning, like one squirt of deodorant will wipe out the stench of your sweaty armpits, after a wild night of slam dancing and stage diving to the Dead Kennedys.
Luckily, after reading many of the revolutionary writings contain in my father's book collection, I stumbled across a book he had by Ho Goku, entitled, "Unlocking the Mysteries of Birth and Death." Fortunately it was at a time in my life when I wasn't sure I wanted to go on living.
This book taught me a formula to rise above the many contradictions of life and society, and find within myself the answer to all of life's quandaries.
Like the 5 part formulas Einstein discovered in mathematics "E = M C Squared", which helped physicists unlock the incredible power within atoms, the five part formula I learned in this book, "Myo-Ho Ren-Ge Kyo," otherwise known as the Wondrous Law of the Lotus Blossom, was able to help me unleash a power within myself that, as Ho Goku writes, is "even greater than the power of nuclear weapons."
"How can I use this incredible power to transform the muddy swamp of Wutherington Beach into a Beautiful Lotus Garden?" This is my mission!

The Celebration of Life!
As I awoke this morning,
I inhaled the cool morning air
And exhaled the warm breath from within.
I felt so alive!
As I drank the Earth’s water,
I sensed the flow of life-force
To every cell of my body.
As I ate the fruits of the Earth,
I metabolized new energy for growth,
For new life.
The warmth of the sun that showed
Through the shades
Warmed my face,
And once again I chanted
The “Wondrous Law of the Lotus Blossom-
Nam Myo-ho Ren-ge Kyo!â€
I chanted in celebration
Of my symbiotic union with the macrocosms.
For I am a microcosm
Of Air, Water, Earth and Fire.
‘Twas not a new month, nor new year today.
‘Twas not a new century, nor new millennium.
No fragment of eternity
Caused me celebration.
I celebrate in spite of those
Who wish I would mourn.
I need not a birthday cake,
A Christmas tree, an Easter egg,
Nor a bottle of wine.
I need not the birth or death of any
“Great man,†to enjoin my celebration.
I celebrate life in spite of those
Who wish I would mourn.
My life is a celebration,
And your life too is a celebration-
‘Tis the celebration of billions and billions
Of years of evolution.
No, an eternity of evolution-
For we are the Lotus Blossoms!
As I bloom, I cast out my seeds to you,
“Nam Myo-ho Ren-ge Kyoâ€
