About Me
An ordinary 19 year old boy with a passion for music in serveral ways.I started with music academy when I was eight years old. First i had to learn notes and rhytms one yearlong without even touching an instrument. The second year I picked up the guitar because the drums where banned from my parents’ ears and house and there was still a guitar in the house so it was easier to get my hands on. A year later I decided that guitar wasn’t my cup of tea after all. I still know my way on a guitar so that year wasn’t a complete waste of time and money. My parents gave in and I signed myself up for drumlessons in the nearby Music Academy. That was probably the best thing that happened in my life. My parents gave me my first drumset and off I went! Not only did I learn to play drums, but also melodic percussion instruments as Timpani, Xylophone, Vibraphone and Marimba. When I was twelve I wanted to expand my horizon and I got involved in an Afican Percussion group for six years armed with a djembé and the dun-duns. In the meanwhile i was still practising hard on my drums. At te same time I was getting to know other drummers and musicians. My brother Willem and his friend Jens played both the electric guitar so we had occasional jamsessions.(No way that our noise was called a “bandâ€!).We had a great time and we learned a few things of playing together. When I went to the first Fusion gig ever I said to a friend of mine: If they ever need a drummer I would wanted to give it a go.. A month later my words needed action: Fusion (later known as YOUR NAME HERE) was looking for a new drummer. They contacted me and a try out later I was their drummer. I still follow drumclasses and I try to pick up as much as I can, by listening to good advice, watching drumclinics and practising hard.In 2004 I allso became the drummer of Funeral Pyre (www.myspace.com/funeralp) In 2005 I started to take piano classes to prepare me for Lemmensinstituut. I stopped the african percussion lessons due a lack of time, but no way it ever get's out of my life, I promise). Your Name Here split also that year, it’s a shame because it was good music. In 2006 I started to study percussion at Lemmensinstituut Leuven with Leo Ouderits. Here I hope to expand my musical horizon in more than one way. Today I try to play with as much different people and orchestra’s to evolve my skills. In september 2007 I became a drumteacher myself in rockschool@play in Leuven. Here I hope to pass on the knowledge so other people may experience the fun of percussion.I would like to thank a few people: First of all my girlfriend for the emotional support and my parents for giving me the oppertunity to do whatever I do and supporting me in every choice I make, for the times they putted their time and money in my hobby. Jens and my brother Willem for making the noise and willing to play with me even if I had just started playing. My drumteachers An Lemmens and Peter Ploegaerts and Leo Ouderits for the endless patience. My djembé teachers Free and El Hadj N’ Daye Rose for learning me the African Way of music. My neigbours for not calling the cops.(Thank you Marcel), The people from the harmonic orchestra and all the people and friends who believe in me and ever gave me good advice. If I forgot anyone I am sorry but these words of thanks are for them too.
