Formed on a late-night whim, the Holy Gun has been wowing audiences since its inception during the summer of 2006. An explosive combination of players has come together to bring listeners a special brand of rock’n’roll, informed heavily by funk and world music. Originally marked by the soaring guitar of Ray Torres, the foundation laid by bassist Ryan Fitzgerald and drummer Loren Kranz, with percussionist and gadget whiz Mike Wardynski deepening the groove even further, the band took off fast.
The year 2007 saw the band go through some lineup changes. Groove drummer Matt Hucul and deep-pocket bassist Sean Drysdale joined the group when Kranz and Fitzgerald left the band to pursue other music projects. On nights that the fates allow, one can have the pleasure of seeing the group with horn players Jeff Wiles and Joe Balbaugh who help push the sonic envelope and creative improvisation to wonderful heights.
A largely original repertoire makes for a setlist like none other, yet several familiar covers and the band’s vibrant personality make for an engaging, entertaining showcase that spans genres. This year is already proving to be a growing time for the Gun, with new songs in the works, talks of recording, and the removal of any and all creative barriers. In all, the Holy Gun is a band devoted to making music and making sure that the audience is having as much fun as they are.
