Howdy Folks, We Don't Take Requests!

About Me

Katalyst is a modern art rock trio hailing from Denver, CO. Matt Skellenger (Bass), Matt Kavan (Guitar, Vocals), and Dave Miller (Drums, Electronics) have been meticulously honing their craft together over the last six years. The band’s innovative sound covers a spectrum of styles, while keeping one foot planted solidly within the bounds of rock and roll. With their latest release Abstract View, Katalyst delivers an album thick with ingenuity. The track list on the new album reflects many moods. The epic heavy-rock title track (Abstract View) is reminiscent of the power and complexity of Tool. Home and Lead Me Blind have the same aggressive edge, but expose a delicate vulnerability not often found in rock music. From light brush strokes of sound to their often explosive and raucous delivery, Katalyst displays a chasm of dynamic range that flows throughout the album. The arrangements of the songs are engaging and fresh. They put a unique spin on the classic model, making each song more of an unfolding journey than the beaten path of the typical radio-rock song. Every piece develops organically, leaving space for the virtuosic musicians to shine. The solos strengthen emotions, sentiments and sounds the band is trying to project. The vocal texture intensifies the thundering music, and does not fear the nakedness of the human design. Kavan’s voice is haunting and powerful. His evocative lyrics speak directly to the unconscious, and attempt to release the listener’s emotions with every phrase. He walks the line between hopeless frustration and cynical optimism, but extends an invitation to live free of life’s needless hardships. The chemical reaction happening within this band is undeniable. Katalyst continues to evolve as they come into their own in the music industry. Buy "Changes" Songs:Buy "Abstract View" Songs:
