My Name is Isabella Marie Swan
I was born on September 13, 1988. Renée and Charlie Swan are my parents, who are now separated. Charlie lives in the small town of Forks, Washington. I am also incredibly clumsy, which leads me to avoid all sports.
At first,my mother married Phil Dwyer, a minor league baseball player who is much younger than she is. Phil travels a lot due to his profession, and I noticed how much her mother wants to be with him while he travels. Therefor, I decided not to force Renée to choose between traveling with Phil or staying in Phoenix with me by moving to Forks to live with Charlie.
I enrolled at Forks High School where I maked quite a few new friends, including Jessica Stanley (for the moment), Angela Weber, and Mike Newton.
The one group of people at Forks High School that truly intrigues me were the Cullens, a mysteriously beautiful family, comprised of five adopted children. In particular, the youngest, the "impossibly handsome" Edward Cullen, captures my attention. At first, I was sure that he hated me — We were forced to sit next to each other in biology class, and he gives me a frightening look of loathing. He clenches his fists and grinds his teeth, not even glancing my way. Later on, I find him in the office trying desperately to switch out of the class. Despite this strange behavior, I find myself drawn to him, but still believes that I was the reason he wanted to switch classes as he wants to be away from me, which puzzles and upsets me exceedingly.
After being away for a week, I finally speak to Edward. He is pleasant and civil, and I noticed that his eyes, which were jet black when I first met him, were now a beautiful shade of gold/topaz. Shortly after, Edward saves me from being hit by an out-of-control van with, what seemed like supernatural speed and strength. I confront him about it at the hospital, but he refuses to talk about it but promises to 'explain later'. I soon start having dreams about Edward.
I, after time, finds out from a family friend, Jacob Black, that the Cullens are vampires, or, as they are referred to by Jacob's Indian tribe, Cold Ones. They are supposedly different from other vampires as they substitute drinking human blood with animal blood - refusing to hunt humans.
Even as Edward and I become romantically involved, it is hard for us to be together. Although he does not drink human blood, Edward constantly lusts for it, and my blood is especially tantalizing for him. The scent of my blood is so alluring that it causes him actual physical pain to be together. He must control his desires at all times, and finds out to mild annoyance that his mind reading capabilities do not work with me. Eventually, we declare our love for one another and grow closer, asking each other questions and getting to know each other better. Edward introduces me to his family, and I joins their baseball game. Danger reveals itself in the form of James and his coven a sadistic tracker vampire who has set his sights on killing me. Edward and his family save me from James, although Victoria and Laurent, the other vampires of his coven escape. I do not escape unscathed. There is crescent-shaped scar on my hand where James had bit me. Although being bitten by a vampire would have meant me being changed into a vampire, this does not happen as Edward draws out the venom before its effects can take place. I spends time in a hospital with Edward constantly by my side, and where he admits that his sister Alice saw a vision of me becoming a vampire. But he is determined that I stay human, despite the fact that I have determination to become a vampire. The reasons behind his intentions are not revealed.
Edward taking me to the prom, despite my broken leg. There we confess, once more, that we are truly love each other. The night ends with Edward and I and our differences about turning me into a vampire.
Months later
On my eighteenth birthday I was upset because it is the day that I becomes older, technically, than Edward. Edward manages to persuade me to come to his house on the evening of my birthday for a party thrown by Alice. Though I refuse any presents from the Cullens at first, I receives a paper cut while opening one of my gifts, causing Jasper (Edward's brother, also the 'newest' member of the family) to try to attack me. Edward believes that I would be safer without him, his family, and his dangerous style of life, so he and his family leave Forks. He does this by deceiving me into thinking that he does not love me any longer. He promises that I will have nothing to remember him by, and makes me promise to be safe. He says 'it will be as if I'd never existed'.
I sink into a deep depression for four months, until I'm 'awoken' out of her depression by Charlie. He threatens to send me back to live with my mother in Jacksonville, Florida, because he is worried about my behavior. To appease my father, I tries to engage in normal, teenage-like behavior. I invite my friend Jessica to go to Port Angeles with me for dinner and a movie. While there, we run into four men standing outside a bar. I feels drawn to them, and starts to approach them. Just then, I can hear Edward's voice inside my head. His 'velvet soft' voice taking on a slight angry tone, telling me, 'Bella, stop this right now! Turn around and go back to Jess'. I quickly realize that whenever I put myself in a dangerous situation, I can hear Edward's voice in my head again with perfect clarity. This eventually endangers me as I tries to put myself in danger to have hallucinations of Edward.
Still depressed, I becomes closer friends with Jacob Black, who fixes a motorcycle for me and teaches me to ride it. Jacob and I become very good friends, verging on the edge of romance, until suddenly Jacob refuses to answer any of my calls and asks me not to come to his house anymore. It is not until a few weeks later that I becomes completely incapable of dealing with Jacob's distance. I drive to the reservation where Jacob lives, La Push, to confront him. Through small clues he is able to give me, I finally realize what my best friend had become: a werewolf. I discovers that Victoria (the mate of the vampire James, whom Edward killed in the previous book, Twilight) has returned to kill me, and that the werewolves have powers which rival those of the vampires.
After Jacob promises to take me cliff diving and doesn't show, I decide that I wants to hear Edward's voice again. In order to hear Edward's voice in her head, I go cliff diving and I nearly drown. When Alice, Edward's sister (who has the power to see the future), sees me jump, she believes I have committed suicide, and subsequently returns to Forks. Edward, isolated from his family by his own volition, is told by Rosalie, his other sister, that I was dead. Alice tells me that Edward is going to Italy to be killed by the Volturi. The Volturi are the oldest and most powerful coven of vampires in the world, described by Alice as the "royal family" of vampires. They have held their city for three thousand years, and are known as 'rulekeepers' to all vampires. In reality, there is only one rule to be kept: humans must not know about the existence of vampires. Edward goes to the Volturi to be killed because he could not bear to live in a world without me. Alice and I take off to Italy instantly.
In Italy, I find Edward about to step into the sunlight in the city that the Volturi control. In doing this, his skin would sparkle like diamonds, exposing himself to humans as 'otherworldly', something that would surely bring a swift death. I convince Edward just in time to not step into the sunlight, but we are soon confronted by other vampires and taken into the 'home' of the Volturi. The Volturi, after demonstrating their powers 'en masse', make Alice swear that Bella will be made a vampire, or else they will kill me. Here, it is made known that psychological vampiric "powers" do not affect Bella at all.
Back in Forks, Edward and I are together again (though Charlie has grounded me for a long time), and he promises me that he has always loved me, and will never leave me again. We also strike up a deal - he will change me if I promise to marry him or I must stick to the deal Ishe made with Carlisle, in which when I finish high school first, and then Carlisle will change me. Later in the woods, Jacob reminds Edward of the treaty made between the Cullens and the La Push werewolves, which stated that no Cullen could bite a human. I was left in a difficult position: if I do not become a vampire, the Volturi will come after me to kill me. However, if the Cullens do make me a vampire, the La Push werewolves will drive the Cullens away from the area. Charlie yells at me to return to the house and I reluctantly coming back, holding Edward's hand, firmly believing that I can face anything with my destiny at my side.......
