Disreputable wife and mother, professional costume maker, magician, medieval re-enactor, dodgy live-role player, gothic belly dancer, pink-haired tattooed freak.Bridie has been bellydancing since 2003, when she started learning Suhaila technique from Najmes from California. In 2005 she discovered, and fell in in love with, American Tribal Style bellydance. Having been a goth since before the term was invented, she was very interested to discover that it was possible to combine the exotic movement of Middle Eastern and Tribal dance with the intensity of gothic rock music. She formed her first troupe, Weird Sisters, in 2004 with her dance partner Sally Roberts. After a few changes of personnel and a brief incarnation as 'Nawari', Weird Sisters is back as a motley collection of goths and metallers who inspire each other to explore the varied landscape of Gothic Tribal Bellydance.Bridie organises Gothla UK, an international festival of Gothic Bellydance, along with Rosie Hutton (Aarachna), Heike Humphries (Akasha), Christine Emery (HRH Mistress Lucretia) and Sue Hutton, which is now in its third year.Performing solo under the name Mehitabel, Bridie has performed at Seductive Alchemy in London, Towel Day in Portland, Oregon, Gothla UK (with Weird Sisters), and is currently looking forward to appearing at Shangri-La Lounge in Nottingham.Drawing from influences as varied as Kajira Djoumahna, Donna Gardner,Ariellah, Zoe Jakes, Penny Caffrey and Kate Bush, Bridie strives to create dance pieces that reflect her own personality and skills. As a professional costume-maker and life-long goth, she regards the aesthetic presentation of the performance is as important as the choreography itself. She continues to be inspired by all those women who carry on dancing well beyond the age where conventional wisdom dictates that they should just sit in front of the TV with their feet up.
