This one time at band camp...

About Me

I'm a radio chick who moonlights as a songwriter/musician. I was a music major at the University of Oklahoma where I attended school on trumpet and guitar scholarships. However, I wound up getting a degree in journalism after some kids locked me out of the band room during a student teaching assignment. The journalism degree led me to radio and I've been playing other people's songs for the past 20-plus years. As the lines to the Johnny Cash song go: "I've been everywhere" (at least in OKC radio), including a 10-year stay at KJ-103 and stints at KTST-FM (the Twister), KEBC-FM, WWLS-AM, KLTE-FM and KGOU-FM (the NPR station). I'm now the morning show co-host on 96.9 Bob FM in Oklahoma City, along with the incredibly talented Ron and Phil. I recently left a similar position at KMGL-FM after nearly six years.Getting back to the musical stuff...One of my songs ("Love Goes Without Saying") was used in the Disney movie "Principal Takes a Holiday" and also made appearances in the daytime soap "Passions" and on "E! True Hollywood Story: Lionel and Nicole Richie."I had two cuts on RCA recording artists PC Quest’s (a.k.a. Pop Chart) album, Just Forget About ‘Em (“Wanted Man” and “That Spells Trouble”) and several other songs recorded by Jeanne Troxell on her CD, First Time Around (“Love Goes Without Saying,” “Because You Love me Back,” “It Doesn’t Matter” and “Fire and Thunder”).I've been a BMI writer for more than 15 years and have just recently started my own publishing company; Band Camp Music. I also have songs signed with outside publishers, including: Riverfront Music Publishing, Revision West Music and Big Idea Music.

My Interests

Music:

Influences: I got my first guitar after watching Johnny Cash on a TV special. Kinda odd to be a girl who wanted to rock like Johnny, but there weren't a lot of women around tearing up the music scene back in the '60s. I really got into all of those cheesy 70s groups, too, and most of today's new country is nothing more than a souped-up version of the songs I grew up with. I also love the 80s "hair" bands and early MTV. Some of my favorite writers are: Paul McCartney, Elton John, Hillary Lindsey, Carole King, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Billy Joel, Shawn Colvin, and Joni Mitchell.
Sounds Like: I love all genres of music, so I sound a bit like everything; country, pop, rock and AC.
Record Label: Band Camp Music Publishing
Type of Label: None
