The Pleasure of Books

About Me

The Pleasure of Books played around Adelaide from September 2007 to May 2009. Thanks to everyone who came to gigs – and also other bands who we played with. Special thanks go to Greg and George at the Grace Emily Hotel who were always supportive and encouraging of the band. Lead singer of The Pleasure of Books - Matt Reiner - now fronts a new project called Matt Reiner and the Aunt SallysBye now.CAROLINE TRAN - TRIPLE J UNEARTHED PODCAST 29 SEPT 2008 '...a four-piece who despite their name take great pleasure from crafting straight up, pop rock. They take their influences from bands like Grant Lee Buffalo, early REM, and Oz bands like The Go-Betweens and The Triffids, which does give you an idea of what to expect from them. It’s all jangly guitars, slightly countrified vocals, and a chorus that would go down a treat to shout it out loud with a bunch of mates...'DAN BUHAGIAR - TRIPLE J '...memorable, hum-along melodies and nice guitar sounds...'LIVE REVIEW BY SPOZ - ED CASTLE, SAT DEC 6 2008 '...The Pleasure Of Books are everything you love about The Grace Emily on a Monday night. They're everything you love about Darren Hanlon and The Lucksmiths...this band is nothing but a breath of fresh air...'LIVE REVIEW BY PHILIPPA_A at FASTERLOUDER.COM.AU - ED CASTLE, SAT DEC 6 08 ‘…refreshing and relaxing…good onstage chemistry…’REVIEW OF GRACE EMILY SHOW 16/02/08 On Saturday my car shat itself but I did manage to drag myself into town to see The Pleasure of Books at the Grace Emily. A very different sort of gig for me to attend, The Pleasure of Books did a Go-Betweens cover which seemed appropriate because Go-Betweens with a bit of light Britpop icing is pretty much their sound. I remember watching The Go-Betweens get flogged to death at one point on Rage years ago while staying up at 4am waiting for some decent music to come on - man I hated that band. But I enjoyed watching The Pleasure of Books and if a band can actually make me like a Go-Betweens song, they must be pretty fucking good. Can't say it's the sort of thing I'd listen to at home, but it's a nice change to go out and see a band and actually want to take my earplugs out when the band starts. And the singing and general musicianship is impeccable across the board. If you're into more commercial sort of stuff then you should check these guys out, or at least check out their MySpace because no-one is really doing this sort of stuff in Adelaide the way that they are. Well, okay, maybe one or two other bands, but those bands suck major dick so who cares about them. The Pleasure of Books are a radio-friendly band in Adelaide that doesn't suck. Yes, this is possible.G.G. Alan Bindig, Three D Radio MyGen Profile Generator
