Helms Theory on SellaBand *******************************************************N It all started years ago when the Long Island music scene was at its peak. Local Bellmorians 12 Inch Bic had an amazing following and were playing shows all over the Island. As the boys grew older they decided to experiment with heavier music and re-named themselves Ecocide. After a few years as a band they decided to go there seperate ways. Singer Ewok and Drummer Tizzle B still had that itch to play. Tizzle was moved from NY to North Carolina. Even though the distance made things complicated the two knew they had something going here. Many long nights of e-mailing ideas back and forth to eachother made for there new found band Creap Scene. A mix of hard - melodic tunes sure to please anyones ears. As of September 2007 Creap Scene was hard at work in the studio trying to make what is sure to be there best music yet. Smarter than your average band, Helms Theory brings a little brain to the scene without sacrificing an iota of accessibility.“Meant to Be” was surprisingly written and recorded in roughly an hour’s time, but it’s a tight song that seems as though it had more writing and studio time. A bit of grit and crunch mingle with melodies and thoughtful, honest lyricism. The interaction of the different rhythms and instrumental lines and the catchiness of the songwriting make for a song has both garage pop sensibilities and songwriting seriousness in its ammo pack.He held a guitar first, but drumming was the first love for Helms Theory’s Tony Zamparelli. His passion eventually led him to start his first band at the age of 17 with Eric Priest, who would go on to become his partner in Helms Theory. 12 Inch Bic achieved such a following that Tony ran into fans who recognized him all over Long Island. With 12 Inch Bic, Tony and Eric recorded the “Music So Good It Will Shrink Your Balls” EP and the full-length “Hey Kids! What Are You Doing?”With the inclusion of another guitarist, Tony and Eric formed their next band, Ecocide, in which they performed on “Konechiwa,” slated to be recorded for Island Records. But circumstances intervened and Ecocide was compelled to disband.Now, Tony and Eric are the force behind Helms Theory, a band that distinguishes itself by bringing originality and mainstream accessibility together in a manifestation of songwriting eclecticism. Helms Theory incorporates a diversity of style influences and strives to be distinctive and avoid derivation. Songwriting and final structure is a collaborative process between Tony and Eric. In the final construction of songs, Tony handles production, drums, bass, some screaming vocals and a portion of the band’s guitar and lyrical duties, while Eric rounds out the sound with almost all the guitars, screams and all the fronting vocals.“Culture Shock” has wrapped up the studio portion of its production.
