(2006)INTROBATUSAMBA Collective began in 2003 with the idea of fusing percussion styles from around the world into their own innovative sound. Founder member Alvaro Lopez was in need of top quality players who would be able to perform his compositions. Most of the members were chosen among the finest players of Drumtech Music School (part of Thames Valley University/London College of Music & Media) and with their mix of race, culture, style and heart they all brought strong friendships into the band sharing joy and good times above all else.VERSEThe collective is composed of players from all over Europe who bring their own personality to increase the power of their sound. Moving fluently through musical styles, such as, Samba, Latin, Reggae and Funk, to name a few, Batusamba perform original compositions interspersed with improvised solos, familiarising the listener with each instruments’ unique sound and character: - The pulsating vibe of Brazilian Surdo’s, the whipping crack of the Snare drums, the intense and electrifying sound of Africa’s Djembes, the cool Cuban moves of the Congas and of course the flavours of bells, shakers, claves, pandeiròs, and more! There is a constant flow of freedom and spontaneous creation. This ensures each performance is fresh and dynamic every time you hear the collective.CHORUSAfter a brief hiatus, Olivier Aslan reformed the band in January 2005, pushed by several propositions to perform and after an entertainment showcase at the famous school that they all come from the Collective was back with more tunes and bigger beats! Since then, they have performed showcases all over London including a gig at The Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 25th June 2006.OUTROBATUSAMBA Collective is aiming to expose what they are to a greater public and give access to different communities through educational projects, involving Music & Dance.
