About Me

It was towards the end of 2005 that Hellium has been formed under the common initiative of Mad (vocals), Xor (guitar) and Smook (drums). Coming from a town where Metal is often perceived as a fascist and Satanist musical genre, it was hard for the threesome to find members to complete the band's final line up. It was only later on that Head (bass) joined the band at a time where they were drifting towards a more brutal and rhythmic Metalcore. With Head aboard, the band could begin rehearsing, starting with covers of bands such as Lamb of God, DevilDriver and Gutworn. Sadly, the unavailability of the necessary gear has considerably slowed down the evolution of the band. Awaiting a better future, they set out to record "Dark Utopia" which is a two track demo whose impact on listeners was great for none could expect this much from the Algerian Metal scene. The first live appearance of the band took place much later on in the middle of 2006; it was the first gig of its kind in their home town Blida where the targeted audience was but a small minority of classic rock fans who were discovering Metalcore for the first time. After this concert, it has been clear that the band was not at its best; a second guitarist was needed. Therefore they auditioned a few guitarists, and their choice was at last set upon Nas who was the one missing pillar of the final Hellium line up.Towards the end of the year 2006, the band was getting ready for the " Lelahel Festival '06 " which is the first Algerian event entirely dedicated to Metal. This was indeed a great opportunity for them to leave the underground scene and to establish themselves nationally as an Algerian Metalcore pioneer band. After putting up an outstanding performance on the second day of the festival, the organisers gave them the opportunity to play again on the fourth day as a support to the headlining French band Bloody Sign; this was a great success for the band on especially on one important level: the conquest of the Algerian audience through a great stage performance. After playing a few more gigs in Algiers, the band started working on what was going to be their debut album "New World Order" which comprised 7 Metalcore and Deathcore oriented tracks. The recording process started towards the end of March '06 and it took the band one month to come out of the studio with the finalised version of the album. Now, they are looking for a foreign record label willing to publish it.
