LYNDON JOHN X---
LJX, better known as Lyndon John X is a singer-songwriter and guitarist
from Toronto Ontario, Canada that burst onto the reggae music scene in
2007 with his first independent Reggae album titled ‘Two Chord Skankin’.
Lyndon started with music very young, beginning at the age of 5 with the
violin and piano. Shortly after, he started playing the guitar which he
continues to study. Through his Grenadian parentage, he was introduced
to Calypso and Reggae music. Reggae music seemed to become part of
him, as it carried through while playing in various Jazz and Blues bands. At
the age of 16, he recorded his first single titled ‘All My Lovin’ which also
appears on his debut album.
“The importance of reggae doesn’t just begin with the drum and the
bass.â€
Lyndon feels reggae has and will forever be a revolutionary instrument thatbroadcasts injustices as well as a hopeful future all over the world.
“Once you get to understand the lyrics the message starts to
penetrate!â€
With his music, Lyndon’s creative plan is to fuse reggae with elements from other genres.
“It’s funny what you can do with things when you just change the
rhythm.â€
Lyndon’s musical electiveness stems from playing with bands and jamming with musicians of every kind. His main musical influences are Bob Marley & The Wailers, Burning Spear, Peter Tosh, Steel Pulse, Third World, Sly & Robbie, Morgan Heritage, Carlos Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix and Wes Montgomery. Lyndon likes to keep himself open to all types of music.
“It makes creating more interesting.â€
‘
Two Chord Skankin’ was recorded in Toronto Ontario, Canada. Lyndon feels that working with the list of talented musicians was a great and long overdue experience. It also provided him with a solid roots foundation of players he needed to make this album what it is...All original music, lyrics, and roots reggae vibes.
2008 brought many exciting things for Lyndon. He was nominated for a
Juno for Best Reggae Recording of the Year, as well as Best Male Newcomer
at the Canadian Reggae Music Awards. He was and still is extremely
excited and grateful for the recognition. He was also given the honour of
playing at Junofest in Calgary while he was there for the Juno Awards. He
also performed at the Canadian Reggae Music Awards at the Jamaican
Canadian Centre.
“Playing for the people is an award in itself.â€
In the summer of 2008, he had the pleasure of playing for reggae fans at the Reggae Festivals in Calgary, Quebec, & Montreal. Lyndon shared the
stage with artists such as Maxi Priest, Steel Pulse, Morgan Heritage,
Brinsley Forde of Aswad, Tinga Stewart, Michael St George, Warrior King &
Humble. The fans were entranced by his all original roots music, skankin’
guitar and conscious lyrics! With enjoying last years busy summer, he has
huge excitement this past summer!! He had the priviledge to perform on the stages at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Montreux Meets Brienz 2009, and the Blue Balls Festival, all held in Switzerland, sharing the stage with many of the worlds greats! The evening he performed was a special tribute night to the legendary Chris Blackwell. Groups performing included Third World, Ernest Ranglin, Angelique Kudjo, Sly & Robbie and Cubanismo. He was also able to line up a few moreshows while travelling through the country.
Lyndon is looking forward to the release of his sophomore album, Brighter Days, in April 2010 so he can continue to deliver his roots reggae vibes and positive uplifting music to his fans, both new and old.
“This is what it’s all about and what I have always wanted to do; spread
positive music vibes!†LJX
