I live in Bratislava, the capital of Slovak Republic and I started to play the resonator guitar (a.k.a. Dobro) after discovering Mike Auldridge's playing with the Seldom Scene. Since then I was attracted to the unique sound of this instrument.
Through the years I played with many domestic and few international bluegrass, country or acoustic music oriented bands either as a regular member or on semiregular basis (Zrnko, BG Album, Nuggett-Austria, Allan Mikusek Band, Petr Brandejs Band, and more but my main band was called Fragment. With this band, I had toured United States for 10 times and recorded 9 albums. (feel free to check out our web site: www.fragmentband.com)
My recent full time band is called Grasscountry (former Country Team) (feel free to visit www.grasscountry.net and www.myspace.com/grasscountry) I still play with Fragment on semiregular basis and occasionally perform with some other artists conecting to the genre and music I like.
In 1999 I was asked to teach the Dobro in Musical School in Trnava (the town in southwest part of Slovakia, known by organizing a festival dedicated to John Dopyera, the inventor of Dobro called "Dobro Fest") as a part of festival activities.
The school lasted for 5 years.
I also teach the dobro at workshops either home or abroad.
Of course, on my musical journey I met many great Dobro players and many of them became my musical heroes and friends. Just to mention a few: Josh Graves, Mike Auldridge, Jerry Douglas, Sally Van Meter, Rob Ickes, Randy Kohrs, Michael Witcher, Ivan Rosenberg, Brad Harper, Todd Livingston and many many more , the list would be endless...
My instrument is Tim Scheerhorn's L Body, spruce top and rosewood sides and bottom resonator guitar.I'm also using Holoubek custom made 6 string lap steel.
Besides the music I have a little unusual hobby: I collect beetles!
Yes, those small, strange creatures that we often look at with disgust, but which at a close and attentive observation render an unbelievable variety of shapes, colors and beauty.
And also another hobby of mine: photography.
