About Me

In the beginning, there was a project called TRANNYKNIFEFIGHT. Under this name, Shamus G. experimented with making wallpaper music for the private listener, and soundtracks for films which had not yet been created. Using a guitar completely laden with reverb, a library of congress issued turntable for the blind, and a collection of records from eastern europe played at completely incorrect speeds Shamus G evoked a mood of antiquity, hollow desperation, and drug induced complacency. Making a CD-R that lacked both artwork and tracklist, and passing them among musicians whose style fit the project, Shamus began a long distance collaboration with Matt Fortunato (Class B Digital Apparatus, j u n q u e). Sending tracks back and forth between Pensacola and Fort Lauderdale, between the two a full length TRANNYKNIFEFIGHT album was made, which has yet to be released.
In December 2006 Shamus brought Dr. John (The Necrophiles, Cruel Sea) into the project as a percussionist. Influenced by florida history in general, and a Passiflora (Edulis) bush they grew in the warehouse, the two made tea from it's leaves and began writing a suite of music suitable for live performance. What was created stood in sharp contrast to the earlier TRANNYKNIFEFIGHT material, laden with reverb drenched percussion and a much higher energy. Matt Fortunato came down to Fort Lauderdale from pensacola and added bells, additional guitar ambience and floortom to the material written by Dr. John and Shamus and THE LONG KNIVES was born.
THE LONG KNIVES debut album, "Florida History" will be available by October 2008 through Speakerfreaks Incorporated (www.myspace.com/speakerfreaksinc.)
