Christopher Tin composes large-scale works for orchestra and chorus, combining world music with classical symphonic structures. He is part of a new generation of composer; trained at London's elite Royal College of Music, but unrestrained by modernist dogma; equally influenced by Brahms as he is by The Beatles. He is a native Californian--born of Asian descent, and educated in Europe--and his aesthetic sensibilities are a blend of his diverse cultural experiences: an emphasis on melodic accessibility, economy of gestures, and Western musical forms.
He is currently recording his debut album Calling All Dawns, a cycle of 12 songs in 12 different languages--from Persian to Portuguese, Japanese to Hebrew--all about life, death and rebirth. The album includes 'Baba Yetu,' the hit theme song to the award-winning video game Civilization IV, currently being performed in concert halls around the world, from the Hollywood Bowl to the Royal Festival Hall. Recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the album is slated for release late in 2008.
In his other life as a multiple award-winning media composer, he has written music for some of the biggest and most critically acclaimed projects in the entertainment industry, including movies such as X2: X-Men United and Lilo and Stitch 2, games such as Civilization IV and Pirates Of The Caribbean Online, and advertising campaigns for clients such as Verizon, Puma and Apple.
