The New Generation consists of two guitar players, and a drummer. Charlie Shearon,22, Connor Alexander,21, and Andrew Bartlett, 25, on the drums. They all grew up in North Mississippi and live about 15 minutes from the home of the late blues legend R.L.Burnside and his sons Garry,Dexter, and Dwayne Burnside. Their name was given to them by Garry and Cedric Burnside the son and grandson of R.L Burnside. Garry told them that they were "The new generation of the blues" and so they were named. They have played with Garry and Cedric for about 1 and 1/2 years, learning and having a true lesson in Mississippi Hill-Country Blues. Connor and Charlie are also guitarists for the Burnside Exploration with Garry and Dexter Burnside, and have had the opportunity to play with Dwayne Burnside, Kenny Brown, Kinny Kimbrough, Luther and Cody Dickinson, and many other amazing blues and rock musicians in their short time in the music business. Charlie says that The New Generation is trying to :"Preserve and push forward with the Hill-Country blues beacuse there is no other music like it". If you've come out to see the Burnside Exploration perform anytime in the past year or so, chances are you've seen Charlie and Connor playing with them.
Connor, Charlie, and Andrew have been playing together since Summer 07' and are quickly earning respect as The New Generation by combining solid, powerful drumming, with gritty and raw blues rock. This 3-piece combines their talents to create a sound unlike other blues or rock bands. They hope to continue to learn and play with the Burnsides as well as the other wonderful musicians they've met along the way, and continue to create their own Hill-Country/rock sound. "We hope that we can combine our efforts to bring the Hill -Country blues into the 21st century while still keeping with that Mississippi sound and tradition". This band may look young but they have the power and talent to deliver an amazing performance beyond their years. They have traveled all over the south playing bars,clubs, jukes, frat parties, you name it, and are creating an ever growing following with true music fans.
