Much Love!

I've called myself Alaska and the Hallelujah choir for over six years, but due to the recent political developments in the States and the Sarah Palin situation I'm not so sure that's a good name anymore...

I grew up on a deserted island in the Swedish archipelago and I think I'm still greatly influensed by my life in the middle of the ocean - beautiful, mysterious, secret, quiet - and very lonely. I've listened to Rickie Lee Jones, Van Morrison, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne and Neil Young all my life, but lately I'm more inspired by my travels through eastern Europe; everything from the sunflower fields in Hungary, the old railways, the hostels, to Istanbul and its music scene that for me is so exotic; a clash between Europe, Asia, secularism and Islam. It makes for a pulse you can't find anywhere else and music that is haunting, rebellious and longing, like Duman and Sezen Aksu.

There will be some songs from the trip up as soon as I've figured out how to record in New York without the alarm from the Queensboro Bridge traffic and the police/ fire truck/ ambulance sirens in the background :)
