About Me

The Vancouver Humane Society is a registered charity dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. We encourage individuals, organizations, and governments to take responsibility for the welfare and rights of domestic animals and wildlife influenced by human activities. Funding comes primarily from donations, and our activities are made possible primarily through the generous assistance of volunteers.
VHS uses educational and research activities to create greater understanding of animal welfare problems and to find solutions to those problems.
We provide information to politicians and officials to support decision-making that protects and enhances the well-being of animals.
We help people in need to obtain low-cost spay/neuter or medical services for their companion animals.
Our Chicken Out! Project provides information to consumers and retailers about the inherent cruelty involved in housing systems for egg-laying (battery) hens. www.chickenout.ca
We inform consumers about the products available from higher animal welfare systems, such as certified organic.
We are working with communities to expose the cruelty involved in the wild and exotic pet trade.
We monitor local zoos and other businesses using animals as entertainment and provide information to improve the living conditions of captive animals.
We have an ongoing project to provide information about the inhumane treatment of rodeo animals.
Our CATFIND line (604-266-1012) provides recorded information to assist people who have lost or found a cat.
