About Me

Solo artist and guitarist Mark Blacker has been at it since 1977 when he formed his first punk band the Anthrax AAnorax . 5.30 Boots his second band with Bart Coles on bass and Dave (polly) Perret on drums soon evolved into Ultimate Dance where punk met funk in a Gang of Four / killing joke style .Sally Bennet was the first of several singers closely followed by punk poet/comedian Lee Coombes in an ever changing line up . Hey Joe featuring Jo Nye and Jim Barr was the most promising musical project from 1985 to 1988 with a prolific Blacker/Nye song writting partnership but sadly it came to nothing . Having rejected computer based music since the dawn of the I.T revolution Blacker has only recently discovered the use of digital multi tracking as a way to create music with out having a band. A simple guitar riff might form a platform around which live guitar bass keyboard and vocals are added ,often they are first takes with no pre concieved ideas about direction .Its a "warts and all" approach with no attempt to correct mistakes to capture that live performance feel as opposed to a clynical clean studio sound. The result is a crude but dynamic sound that captures the essence of what Mark Blackers music is all about.Heart is a good example of this technique. Recent collaborations include work with the crazy Catalan, Xavier Panades. The tracks Stain and Skrap were put together from nothing in a couple of hours. The Minipixels are now age 8 and 6 and tend to hi-jack any new material to claim as their own ;-)To bring things right up to date The Blacker/Nye song writting partnership is about to be rekindled with a view to performing at this years Glastonbury Festival
