About Me

Like all great journeys, mines has a starting point.1994 - Southfields Community College in South London. I was 14 years old and was being passed a Snoop Doggy Dogg album on cassette. I was told it would change my life and it did. From then on I was in love with this art form known as rap.Interestingly my journey as an artist did not begin as a rapper. I started as a member of a youth choir and eventually became one of the heads of the youth choir. We ministered at various universities across the UK and always seemed to end the night performing a rendition of 'Stomp' or some other Kirk Franklin hit. I would always be called on to play the role of Kirk and I guess I did it well. There was a hunger for more, my desire to pursue my own musical path stirred deep within me and I soon found myself going against the grain.I was always told that when we walk the path we are called to walk, it would not be and easy journey. It would come with many challenges and tribulations. Such was my journey into hip-hop.My decision to pursue this path would see me phased out of the youth choir leadership, not out of malice or anything ill feeling, but rather a realisation that my heart was no longer in it and I was not going to be anyone’s 'little Kirk' anymore.I spent a large part of 1996 - 1997 deejaying (my father bought me a CD mix pack as graduation present), rapping over secular beats and freestyling whilst the church band rehearsed. All this did was add fuel to the furnace and made me want to rap more and more. I had access to people in the music industry but I just wanted to rhyme for Christ. I didn't realise it would be as hard as it was. Roll on March 1998 where my mother being the great support that she has always been, got me a Yamaha DJX keyboard and I got myself a copy of Cakewalk Pro Audio. This was the birth of the production side of things. A memorable time for me in 1997 was opening up for former Grapetree Recording artist L.G.Wise. That night really had an impact on me as the Lord gave L.G.Wise a prophetic word over my music ministry and ultimately my life.In 1998 I formed a crew called 'Heavens Cartel' which consisted of myself and another rapper 'Blazon' (now emcee Icie of Commission) and we embarked on a project called 'Realise N Recognize'. I spent my days at University and my nights writing, producing and chatting to my US counterparts on HipHopZone.com. I rapped under the alias K.L.A.S.S (Klassic Lyrical Assassin Saved Soldier) and sometimes Heavens Associate. The 'Realise N Recognize' project was completed in 2000 but due to limited resource and support could not be pushed further than our local church and youth outreaches we were invited to.2001 saw me finish university, move to the Midlands (Loughborough) and start my professional career as a Statistician. The challenges of full time work, paying bills and being out of fellowship with my regular body put a massive strain on me spiritually and musically resulting in a break from public ministry. I continued to work on material and actually wrote a couple of the tracks on my first LP 'The Arrival' during this phase.2003 saw me move back to London and get married. The move back to London was a period of restoration, preparation and also tribulation all rolled into one. In this period, Sould Out Entertainment was birthed, L.O.R.E and V.T.C joined the family and the majority of 'The Arrival' was written. This period also saw many personal trials and tribulations, some of which resulted in the move back to the Midlands but this time to Nottingham.2005 - Present. This has been the real grinding part of the journey. Many a time has been taken away from music to build my marriage, to further my career and therefore provide as a husband, become a father of 2 beautiful daughters and develop a deeper understanding of God. Many a times in this period I have committed my life to Jesus and continue to do so on a regular basis. The backbone of who I am has been solidified in this period. I completed 'The Arrival' in 2007 and shelved the project, I spent 2008 seeking God's face and his desire for my ministry and he gave me 'The Return of The Sleeping Giant'.To put it simply, I am still at the early stages of my journey, I have had a taste of success and realised it is nothing but a distraction from the real objective. I have failed to obey and seen God's discipline at work in my life. I have submitted and experience Gods grace and restoration. I have made friends and companions along this road and I pray that I will continue to do so for many more years.I came to Christ in 1989 as a boy, in many ways I remain that boy till now. It is the eagerness, the anticipation, the hunger and the drive that boy had that has sustained me in my pursuit to please Jesus and it is that same boy that stands before you a man bringing you the honest, personal journey of life's lessons so that you too may come to know Jesus.
