Born from the inspired mind of percussionist/multi-instrumentalist Steven Hale (originally from Glasgow), Language provided synth-funk happiness throughout the mid '80s. Its varied members were culled from prior projects involving Hale, from guitarist Maxim Rad and bassist Daniel Bontjes Van Beek to backup singer Debbie King (sister of Gang Of Four lead singer Jon King), who had been the lead singer of a pre-Language band with Hale called Flying Club. The band lasted long enough to release three singles (one on Stiff Records and two on A&M Records) and one five-song EP (on A&M) before it disbanded.
Presently Steven Hale resides in rural France along with his Norwegian architect wife and two children.
