The Poetry Shows: For the past 2 years Parlé has also hosted several Poetry Slams and Open Mic’s in order to spotlight that other talent, because not every one is a rapper or singer. We launched our first slam in 2005 and young poets from across the 5 boroughs came out in full force. Performers came from as far as Philadelphia, and others represented New Jersey and Westchester. The event was so big it received press from the Amsterdam News and was featured on Hot 97‘s website.
The slam continued off into an open mic and the performers only got better over time. Every summer they return with an annual poetry slam including the most recent one this past July.
Establishing the Poetry Tour: Over the years the spectacular performances from the poets spoke volumes for themselves. The core finalists from the first round continued to make appearances at future events and over time the Parlé events became synonymous with the names of the poets. It only made sense to create something with it so the Parlé With Us Poetry Tour was established the last week of 2006 where they performed for the first time together on the bill of a show titled ‘The New Christmas.’
Parlé With Us Poetry Tour: Things didn’t become official until February of 2007 with the first official performance at the Bowery Poetry Club.
The Tour took off to a great start earlier this year putting together stellar performances at Brooklyn College, SUNY Purchase, The Nuyorican Café, Lehman College, Bronx Guild High School and many more.
