Val West was born in Hollywood, California. Ever since he was a kid, he has had a great love for music. He started to study classical music and play the violin at the age of 11. After hearing Mötley Crüe’s “Girls, Girls, Girls†on the radio, he was sold on Rock N’ Roll. Not long after, he saw a local high school band rehearsing Black Sabbath and Beastie Boys songs. He asked his friend that day “what’s that guitar with the four strings?â€. He had never heard of a bass guitar before, but right then he knew that it was the instrument for him. Two years later, down in Florida, he’s playing bass in a Southern Rock N’ Roll band. Probably one of the biggest influences on him, though, was John Lee Hooker and his performance in the movie The Blues Brothers, ‘cause right then he wanted to be John Lee Hooker. Another point in Val’s life that really changed the way he looked at music was the first time he saw T.M. Stevens. He went from playing funky music sometimes to eating, sleeping, and drinking funk. When he first moved to Nashville, he played in a funk band for a year and a half, and had a blast.
Val has opened for such rock greats as Zakk Wylde’s “Black Label Societyâ€, Slash’s Snakepit, DeeDee Ramone, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, and many others and has played bass live with funk legend Ron Ford of P-Funk.
What kind of music does Val play? Live!!! Raw!!! Uncut Rock N’ Roll!!! And let the music speak for itself!!!
