I made this profile to dedicate a hero of World War 2. I am not trying to be George Luz, I wrote a small story explaining himself for your enjoyment. Thank you.
"Hello, my name is George Luz. I was born in 1921 and grew up in Rhode Island, before enlisting in the Paratroopers in 1941.
I was a non-commissioned officer with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, in the 101st Airborne Division.
I have a knack for causing trouble with my large sense of humor, and my ability to imitate just about anyone. During training in England, I did an impression of one of the Regimental staff to the Commander of Easy Company, Herbert Sobel, tricking him into cutting a man's fence and letting loose a herd of cows. On 6 June 1944 I jumped into Normandy. I wore more gear than any other soldier. Before I jumped, I siad to Lt.Harry Welsh to change his seat, so I could get out of the plane faster and just get it over and done with. When I landed, I was totaly alone and could not find a friendly face not even from my Company. Trying to find my company, I hid behind a hedgerow for cover, looking up and seeing my fellow paratroopers being perished by tracer bullets.
I eventually managed to find E.Company the next day and assisted in the taking of Carentan. Just over a month later, I jumped into Holland with Easy during Operation Market Garden which was the biggest Airborne invasion in Paratroop History. And near Christmas, 1944 I and the rest of Easy Company participated in the Battle of the Bulge, where I sadly lost several friends Muck and Penkala to German artillery."
George Luz recieved the following Medals -
- World War II Victory Medal

- Bronze Star
- Purple Heart
George Luz died on October 15, 1998. His burial at the Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, R.I. was overseen by more than 1,600 people!
