These are Reviews of our Feb 2nd show. Taken from
EAST TEXAS UNDGROUND
The show started promptly @ 10pm, and then Blood of Redemption blew up the p.a. @ 10:01 pm. After 45 minutes, they started back up again with some replacement sound equipment. Blood Of Redemption, introduced a new drummer (Tyler, who frequents this board). He was pretty good, and understand he's only been playing for 1 1/2 years. After a few months of practicing with the band, he will be even better. This was also the first time, I think, that they played with only one guitarist, and I personally think they should keep it that way. It sounded less muddy and more decipherable this way. They done a 4 song set, and one extra breakdown when Kendrick refused to let them continue until they played the last song way slower.
I was generally impressed with the performance. I saw them as (Slaves of Sin) a while back (when they had another guitarist and a different drummer). I noticed the guitar was much cleaner this time, however, the lack of the 2nd guitar seemed to take a little bit of punch out of it. Their lead player has some nice riffs and reminds me a lot of the guitars from Lamb of God. He also seems to be a lot cleaner on his notes then they used to be. As good as their lead player is, if they can find the right guy, they definitely need another guitarist. Their vocalist, Robert, Is a beast on the mic. This guy is amazing and seems to mix it up enough to not allow the songs to get old. Even when a few riffs are overused, the vocals keep your attention. Couldn’t here the bass that good but from what I could tell quite possibly one of the better bassist around. Now to move on to the new drummer. Like I said no one get offended because all I’m saying is my honest opinion. ...I don’t know where they found this kid (19-20 yrs old?) but I thought he was pretty damn good, especially for have not even to hit the 2 year mark in his drumming career. He’s really going to be somebody one day. He seemed to handle the breakdowns nicely, with choppy double kick, as well as the fast thrashy beats. Had pretty solid feet, while not being the fastest drummer around, he’s definitely steady. When I seen the amount of cymbals on his set I doubted his ability to utilize them all, but overall he did a decent job on that. I did notice him mess up 1-2 times (or so I thought?), but overall it was a good performance. I did notice his drumming was a little raw but this should be perfected with more time. I’m surprised SOS took a chance on such a young (even kind of inexperienced) guy, but it seems to have played off, because in my opinion the drumming now sounds better than before. One negative thing I did have to say was their performance on stage. They seemed too uptight and didn’t headband near enough. Their stage performance wasn’t that bad but being followed by A Theory On Conquest hurt them. Overall though it was a good set, short, but good.Grade:
