Founded in 1981 by musician and composer, Gerry Eastman, the Williamsburg Music Center exists to foster the creation, performance, and appreciation of American classical music. It is Brooklyn's only black-owned and operated, nonprofit, jazz institution, and the only one in New York City to offer classes and workshops in jazz history and performance.
The Williamsburg Music Center is home to the Williamsburg All Stars, its resident band, which performs on weekends and staffs the music education program. It is also the sponsor of the Contemporary Composers Orchestra, an ongoing music lab, whose mission is to further the development of aspiring jazz composers, and provide a forum for new jazz works to be polished and performed.
In addition to its regular concert schedule, the Williamsburg Music Center welcomes guest artists and lecturers, and hosts a variety of enrichment activities, including bi-weekly jam sessions, spoken word, dance, and art exhibits.
Gerry Eastman is the Center's creative director, the band leader and producer for the Williamsburg All Stars, with whom he has toured worldwide, and the head of the Contemporary Composers Orchestra.
The Williamsburg Music Center is a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit organization registered in the State of New York.
