TYS practice "Polaroid" 7 degrees NO HEAT!
In April of 2006, Jason Brown and Scot Long (both formerly of Undone and Preshus) got together and started to write some new material. It became evident that the music was more aggressive than their recent venture and satisfied their cravings for thrash/metalcore music. .
Once content with their small collection of tentatively finished songs ... they went on the search for additional members. Newcomer, Rodney Barnett, filled the position of Rhythm and Lead guitarist and immediately began to contribute intricately written riffs. Garrett Grubbs (formerly of 15 Minutes of Shame) signed on as the Bass player and rounded out the tightly knit rhythm section with drummer Jason Brown. The search then began for a frontman/singer. Chris Rutherford (former singer for Preshus) instantly came to mind. He joined as soon as he heard the band rehearse their material. Thousand Yard Stare was complete.
Thousand Yard Stare enjoyed several great shows in 2007 with some of the best bands that the local scene had to offer. It was great seeing familiar faces and making new friends as well. In February of 2008, Rodney regrettably resigned from his position on the guitar. We wish him the best.
The vacancy opened up an opportunity for local axeman Ben Rinker, formerly of Burn to the Core and Cikada, to join the TYS ranks and he was welcomed with great enthusiasm. TYS knows Rinka's chop guitar style will enhance the thrash metalcore brand of music they enjoy so much.
The 10/3/08 show at The National marked the end of another era for Thousand Yard Stare as they bid a fond farewell to percussive machine and long time Richmond musician, Jason Brown. Brown's last show was a good one and a great way to send him off. TYS sought out replacements in numerous local musicians, but found a brutal and graceful replacement in another RVA veteran, Aaron Knott (formerly of Separation and Burn to the Core). Aaron was eagerly welcomed in to the group, and the TYS sound will only get more vicious and tighter with this new addition to the line up.
Musical influences range from Unearth , God Forbid and Hatebreed to Iron Maiden , Winter Solstice and InFlames . Their goal is to make music by incorporating the things they love to hear: dual guitar harmonies and leads, bass breaks, acoustic transitions and heavy breakdowns. Lyrical concepts range from social isolation to the inevitability of death and our inability to achieve perfection. The lyrics are personal and reflect emotion on all levels. The music is intense and merges melody with aggression. Thousand Yard Stare promises a good show and looks forward to getting your comments and feedback about their music.
