About Me

Formed in summer 1990 after a few enjoyable, drunken, ramshackle practices in the old Gas Works, Whitby, North Yorkshire. Their sound is a mixture of Grunge/Sub Pop/Punk/Trash and Abba. They played extensively around the north of England. Gigs were were wild, shambolic and always at the extreme end of entertaining. Nothing was taboo. The band quickly gained a cult following. Somehow something loosely musical emerged from the mayhem. The Totem Phase EP was recorded in 1992 at Studio 64, Middlesbrough. An album, Spunkmonkey, arrived a year later. Both were released on their own label, Rangam Records. The band moved to Leeds in 1993 but split up the following year. Tactfully put down to a loss of momentum, the real reason was that after four years together the band were sick of the sight of each other. Much bickering and bitterness ensued over the following years. The various members went on to join rival bands Friends of Dorothy? and Candyslide. The reason for this Sludger resurrection was the 'Hear and Now' concert of Saturday November 4th, 2006. SG played at the very first Whitby Now in 1991 and caused mayhem in front of 1600 people, some of them elderly relatives. It was a very memorable night. Sludge Ghaut were invited back for the 15th anniversary. This reunion was the first time all the band have been together in the same place at the same time in twelve years.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
